I know this shiz is late - my bad! This is what I typed up from a different venue so it will be kinda boring. This was our first ever Vegas trip and it was also a working vacation. I'm going in August to get the feel of bottle service for a column and story I'm writing for the entertainment media I freelance at here in Texas.
Day 1:
Flight and Limo
We drove into Houston from Port Arthur, Texas and had a wonderful flight to Vegas. We were able to get our seats together and sat next to a woman on her 15th trip to Vegas. My friend was scared crapless as she'd never flown before. We shared a screwdriver before our 11:30 flight and we were feeling pretty good on the plane. We arrived in Las Vegas about 30 minutes early and were delighted to see our limo driver, Scott, from Presidential Limo waiting for us - sign in hand - at baggage claim. He was awesome and I wouldn't hesitate to use Presidential again. We got our roses and champage and he gave us a tour of the strip. By the second glass of champagne, my friend and I were pretty tipsy but it was awesome SEEING all the places I see everyone talking about here on the board. We made it to Venetian.
Hotel
The Venetian was BEAUTIFUL but over the top. It was very nice but I doubt I stay there again. I wanted to make sure we had a very nice hotel but I wish I'd have stayed at a place that had a more party vibe. Check in was very, very fast and we made it to our suite on the 16th floor. I was drunk by check in but kept my composure. I lied and said my friend was getting married the next day and asked for an upgrade. I got one, no $20 trick needed.
The room was gorgeous. Living area, two wonderful queen beds and the bathroom was to die for. It really didn't take that long to get to our room at all. I hear about the lonnng walks from casino to room, but it really wasn't all that bad. That bitter orange smell was annoying, but I got used to it. We were there in the room for three or four minutes and the phone rang. Downstairs was making sure that we were in the room to receive our luggage.
We freshened up and walked downstairs and decided to walk the strip for a while.
We walked around for a while and then got ready for the Vinnie Favorito show at Flamingo. My editor at my newspaper really loves the guy and paid for us to go. I was to include it in my story.
Went to the show and sat up front. Very funny but dear GOD..we were the youngest people there. I mean, I don't know if they sell tickets to the show in an AARP book or wtf is going on. But we felt completely out of place. He picks on everyone in the audience. He pokes fun of every race, age group, whatever. He noted all the Blacks in the audience and for some reason didn't notice me. He ended up noticing me later and called me one of those "tricky Blacks", lol.
After that we went to Tao nightclub inside our hotel. It was a beautiful club. We were able to get in immediately for free. Some bouncer just pulled us from the line and let us in. It felt like a club from home only bigger and more packed. We got the the club at about 11:00 and drank, dance and finally when we were both super drunk, we decided to leave. We felt like we'd been there allllll night. We leave out and look at our watches..it's 12:30. lol We thought it MUST have been much later. We were sooo tired so we just went back to the room and went to sleep. We slept well. The remote drapes close so well that with them closed, you dont know if it's night or day. So we ended up sleeping in until 10 or so. We'd planned on getting up earlier.
Day 2:
We ate breakfast in the food court at Shake n' Burger. Pretty good! We took this entire day to walk the strip. We walked from Venetian back towards New York, New York. We rode the roller coaster at NY,NY and had a BLAST. We just walked most of the day, enjoying the sites. I really liked NY,NY as a hotel. I loved the arcade level and some other things there. I also liked Monte Carlo. These hotels were not as huge as Venetian and I'd wanted to stay at one of those when I returned to Vegas, but as it turns out, I'll be at T.I.
We TRIED to eat lunch at Diablo's in Monte Carlo but service was friggin horrible. It took the waiter 20 minutes to get our drinks and chips and salsa and then after 45 minutes of waiting for NACHOS (the table next to us got their fajitas before we heard a thing about our stupid nachos), we told another waiter what was going on. The manager apologized, comped our drinks/food but we were tired of waiting so we left. We ended up eating at Toby Keith's Bar and Grill at Harrah's. I did NOT enjoy my food, but my friend enjoyed her popcorn shrimp. The drinks were awesome. I had a drink called Mom's Homemade Apple Cobbler. It tasted like Christmas in a glass, lol. Cinnamon, apples..just really good and very strong.
Friday must have REALLY set off Memorial Day weekend in Vegas because it got PACKED. Thursday it took us a minute or two to get an elevator. Friday? OMG. It took us 45 minutes once. Tao beach was the weekend hot spot and we heard it ALWAYS is.
We FINALLY got back to our room and just lounged around until it was time to see Dane Cook. We were too scared to leave to go anywhere because of the horrendous waits!
When it was time to go to the show, we got dolled up and took a cab. I had been drinking in the meantime. I have no idea if the cab driver screwed us but it ended up costing me 12 to get to Palms. Whatever. We got there and had drinks at the Palms bar. LOVED THE PALMS. It had that party feel we wanted. We enjoyed the Dane Cook show. AWESOME. I was mad I paid so much for floor seats when the huge monitors were being used. I could have paid so much less to sit way in the back and watch the monitors! We left from there, stood in a ridiculously long line to get back to Venetian by cab. It was very long but it didn't take us long to get the cab. Another 12 to get back to the hotel. Fine. We were hungry so we went to our room, changed from our heels and put on some flip flops. We were in the mood for sushi so we walked to Treasure Island ot go to Social House.
WORST. SUSHI. EVER. It was horrible. lol The place was absolutely beautiful though. It was a very gorgeous restaurant. We paid $50 for California Rolls, Shrimp Tempura rolls and Spicy Tuna rolls and one drink. But it was awful. We ended up meeting some hilarious guys from Milwaukee who were seated next to us. They REALLY disliked their food. They ordered $80 steaks, shrimp and drinks and they shared it with us and it was just as horrible. We drank and laughed with them in the restaurant for a while and went downstairs with them to learn to play Blackjack. They ended up winning a couple of hundred. We were tired so we went back to our room and slept. It was about 1:00 by the time we got back to our room.
Day 3:
We got up around 9 and ate breakfast in the hotel food court again. We also had drinks at Lime Ice (???) or something like that. It's a little bar in the food court. AWESOME drinks. I had some crazy mix with berries and vodka mixed with Pink lemonade. My friend had pina colada mixed with rum and some blue berry slush. While drinking, we shopped for souvenirs to take home to friends.
We met up with some guys we'd met on this board at Toby Keith's. We had a blast drinking with them and laughing about how we'd been to bed "early" every night in Vegas. They apparnetly had only gotten 3 hours sleep since landing in Vegas and they'd been there 3 days! We agreed that our last night would be our best. Our plans were to go to Sapphire, the strip club, and meet them there.
So, we spent that day lounging around our room and playing the slots in our hotel. I didn't win much..maybe $25 or so. I'm not a big gambler and that was not the point of going for us. We ate pizza at a food court pizza place and it was pretty good. We got dressed to go to Sapphire and the limo from the strip club picked us up at 9.
We had made reservations for the MEN show and it was $50 per person. We got there and the place was huge. We paid and were seated after a while. Our time waiting we spent checking out the girl strippers. It looked like fun just watching and drinking, but we'd already paid for our show.
I was majorly disappointed. Just wasn't what I thought. Cool show. Funny host. But the guys were EXTREMELY pushy. I had them come up to me and take me by the hand and say stuff like "Let's go get oily together" or "lets make some Asian and Black babies". I ended up being pulled on stage by the host to have a very hot Puerto Rican guy do his show on me. NIIICE. Enjoyed it. We drank A LOT. We each had 6 mixed drinks, two shots and then I had a vodka and cranberry. The men just kept on, though. "Ready for a dance yet?". I'd say no. They wouldn't stop. "Why not? Come onnnn!" One of the main guys kept winking at me and rubbing on my shoulders. Finally, I got tired of being harassed and we left the men's area early to go meet our friends from the this board.
