Just wondering if anyone's been to Poetry? I heard they play hip hop and R&B all night.. What are happening nights to go outside of the usual sat/sun?

Hi Poetry is open Thursday through Sunday. Thursdays are more of a warm up night but still popular among hip hop lovers, mostly tourists. Fridays are packed locals and tourists. Saturdays are insane and very hard to get into. Sundays have become insane as well with more of a locals draw.
Note that Poetry is an 85% to 90% black crowd however people of all races and creeds can enjoy the scene if hip hop is what you're looking for. Very strict dress code but for those not familiar with the urban scene, they still may feel out of place, but it's usually only in their own mind. My best advice is to just enjoy yourself.
People who go to Poetry regularly, LOVE the place because it's the only spot on the strip that caters to this niche market, and it's safe, packed and always a great urban vibe. For info call the club directly at 1-800-465-8700.

Still gotta check this place out to listen to some real hip hop. Only place in Vegas you will get to hear stuff like MF Doom, Pete Rock/CL Smooth, Old Wu-Tang, Hiero, etc ...Originally posted by djmasterweb View PostHi Poetry is open Thursday through Sunday. I personally didn't like this place. Very small dance floor. You're pretty much shoulder to shoulder with everyone and it's a sausage fest. I went on a saturday. Drinks were whack. Bullshit dresscode. I read everywhere that it is very strict and enforced, blah blah blah. Foo's in there with 5xl polo shirts, white t's, sneakers, etc. Music was good, I'll give it that. But way too small of a venue. djmasterweb is right about it being 90% black people. I personally don't care what ethnicity dominates in the club. If you want to party, lets party together! (One Love!!!)
Back to the club though, Didn't really like having to wait in an employee service hallway either. I read somewhere about there being a lawsuit about that too. I'd give it a 6/10.Jack Colton's AOD Invasion May 2010 = Success!!!

Might be a reason why I haven't been to this place ... may have to keep it that way. It's all good like you said, just give me a bottle and were good (minus the sausage fest).Originally posted by killerfanatics View PostI personally didn't like this place. Very small dance floor. I went there in March during the Final Four and it was decent. I went there on a Saturday night by myself because my friend got sick and stayed in. The line to get in was long but I had a Vegas Passport pass and gave a host $5, who then quickly escorted me through the rope (maybe he thought it was a 50). Unfortunately, the bouncers made me finish my drink and patted me down before I went up the stairs (good thing I didn't bring my flask, lol)
The music was mostly rap, hip hop, reggae, which is cool because I'm not a big fan of house/techno/trance music. Like people have said before it gets really crowded in there and if one is claustrophobic, it's not the best place to be, as plenty of other spots on the strip will play the same music somewhat and may have an outdoor patio for some fresh air to escape.
The people were really cool, although there wasn't as much crazy dancing as other places I had been used to. The staff did kind of annoy me though. It was really packed when I walked in and as I was trying to navigate my way around a bouncer yelled at me for being to close to a VIP section. That happened several times throughout the night but I wasn't planning on elbowing my way into a crowd of people. I wasn't going to drink all the bottles there either, lol.
All in all I can't complain really though, people in the VIP section were throwing out cash, which I think is wasteful but I picked up enough off the ground to get a beer, which was only $5. I wouldn't go there again, but I'm glad I got a chance to experience it."We're not on that list...paying extra money so other people can't sit next to you? That's not livng the high life!!! Where I come from we all party together..."

i like it
i've been to poetry a bunch of times, and in general i have a good time. as mentioned in other posts, it is a very small club - it's actually the upstairs of a restaurant that operates during the day. The one thing that annoys me most about the size of this place, and the amount of people they jam in, is that you can feel the floor moving because of all the dancing bodies. A little disconcerting...
Other than that, the music selection is good, straight hip hop, although they still go off on these tangents sometimes and play something oh so wack (like from the 90s). Drinks don't seem too expensive, compared to other clubs. It can be a pain in the ass to get in this joint, again probably because of its size. On several occasions I walked straight in no questions asked and no cover, and several times i've waited in their bullshit line (in the service hallway, wack) for up to 30 minutes and paid 20. i would recommend going early, like 1030 or 11 if you wanna try to avoid the line. Especially if you happen to have one of their "VIP" passes, get there early or they won't honor it
Oh yeah, another thing that annoys me about Poetry is that when the night is over you they used to make you go out the bowels of the Forum Shops, to the outside, to reenter the casino - you can't just walk back out through the forum shops to the casino. This is what the lawsuit that someone mentioned is about, and I totally agree. It's bad enough for us chicks in heels to have to walk ANYWHERE after the club, but you want me to walk over a concrete floor in a dank hallway, outside and then back THROUGH the casino to get to the valet? Um, kiss my ass

Yeah the situation with Caesars and Simon Property Group is pretty disconcerting to be honest. (Simon just got slapped with ANOTHER federal discrimination suit this past month based on a completely separate situation at Caesars Forum Shops). They have a real problem with race issues apparently.
As far as Poetry, the capacity is almost 1000 people so it's not *that* small. A lot of people don't realize the club opens a second room and hallway access as the night continues.
Since the club is SO packed every weekend and now Sundays as well, the cover went up to $30 and usually goes to as high as $60 or more on Saturday nights. That has resulted in a more selective crowd. The club also rarely accepts VIP passes anymore. The guest list is the best bet, getting people in for half price before 11pm.
