  • Paying Cash Money

Ok heres a question. I have no problem doing this in Miami, and ive never tried it in Vegas, but when im out there in September it will be easier for me to just pay for things in cash considering i will be collecting money from everyone there. Like when we go to clubs i am going to want to pay for everything in cash at the end of the night. I really dont want these balances on my credit cards. I know they are going to need to hold a credit card when we get the table, and ill tell them im going to pay cash at the end of the night. Ill just pay at the end and tell them to not charge my credit card. Has anyone ever done this or will they not do it?

Let me know because i really dont feel like having everyones drinks on my card considering its going to be a lot.

I do it all the time, and ALOT of people do it. they intially charge the cc to make sure its valid as to make sure you dont skip out, but then they reverse the charges at the end of the night when you pay in cash. I always hold onto the receipt and call the cc company first thing in the morn to avert any disasters, and make sure there are no charges from the nightclub. but this is very sommon just tell the waitress right up front!!

So if i tell the waitress upfront this isnt a unusual request? Ill make sure i tell her. My only problem is i usually get so drunk a the end of the night that i forget where i put the receipt lol. So they charge the full drinks on the cc and then reverse the complete charge?

Im not sure exactly what they charge but the run something through to make sure that the cc is valid and working. its not unusual at all and if I were you id tell her right upfront that youre paying in cash and you always lose the receipt and ask her to staple it to your shirt before you leave

It's just an authorization that they run at the beginning of the night, and it will usually be for more than you're planning on spending. Like, if you've got 3 bottles planned, which is what like $1500 including tax and gratuity, they'll probably run it for $2000.

It doesn't actually charge anything, it just authorizes up to $2000 for the club to charge, meaning they can charge anywhere from $0-$2000. Once you pay in cash they drop the authorization, or, if they are retarded and forget to, eventually it falls off on it's own when there is no follow up charge.

The exception to this is Visa/MC check cards. Because when they run an authorization on those it actually reduces the available balance in your checking account and it can take a few days for that to go away. I had that happen to me once and it completely fucked me from gambling for the rest of the trip, because I couldn't access any of my cash, even though I had paid the balance in cash and didn't put anything on my card.

Same thing goes when checking into hotels, that's why they warn you.

Yeah i just didnt want to deal with fighting with the credit card company so i hope it goes smoothly. I guess i could always fight the charge if it gets that far, but i hope it doesnt.

Yeah, seriously, every time you check into a hotel, rent a car, even buy gas, this is how it works. If you ever look at your credit card right after you run it for gas, notice it only shows up as $1.00 on your credit card statement until they adjust it through as the amount you paid.

I've definitely been broke enough before to take advantage of that loophole

Yeah your right. Ive done it with Hotels plenty of times and never had a problem. I just figured with a Vegas nightclub they would try and screw you for every penny they can. But if you tell me not to worry then i wont

For me I think just for 'safety' reasons I'd put it in my credit card. Nothing worse then getting super drunk and having folded bills scattered from the bathroom to the dancefloor because.. who knows.. you're drunk.

I hear that...I don't like to carry lots of cash even when I'm sober, nevermind when I have been drinking.

Yeah exactly! I am no good with cash at all!

If you are really worried about being too drunk to pay, then you should collect the cash, put it in the room safe, and charge your CC. But, if you can't trust yourself to pay off the balance-since you are concerned with carrying a balance-then you will have to pay cash, just keep both receipts in case.

I know how it is, when I've booked hotels in the past, I put the whole trip on my card and the group pays me...well, this didn't always get back on my CC b/c I would spend it or whatever when I got the money-usually got it from everyone in Vegas. I know I couldn't trust myself to put 2k on a card and pay it back with the 2k cash...it just always ends up spent! I don't spend much when I use credit or debit cards, but cash always burns a hole in my pocket, especially in Vegas with all the craps tables calling me!
