Proper Bottle Service Etiquette

This is my first post on JC.com although i have been following his website and forum for a while and partied with him a few times.

I feel that the issue of tip needs to be discussed from a VIP Hosts point of view. With the exception of a few venues, most VIP Host are paid with a very small salary combined with a tip cut. All tips received by the venues VIP Hosts are collected together with the tips received from the Door Host. These figures are pooled over the course of the weekend, and given back at the end of the week. Most clubs use a point system to determine how much is given back. This being said, I have broken down basic standard by bottle min.


Straight Buys - min should be $50, and depending on how many bottles are purchased could be up to $1000

Any Free bottle - any time you are offered a "Get One Free", you should add $100 per free bottle to the gratuity for the host

Comps - If you get a free bottle with out being required to purchase anything, you should be tipping 60-100 per bottle to the host, 60-100 per bottle to the girl and 20 to the porter.

Remember that if a bottle is purchased, a 20% gratuity for the girl is added to the bill, but nothing is added for the host. If the table is a complete comp, then there is no bill , so the Host, cocktail girl and porter need a tip.

Lastly, this all goes out the door if its New Years Eve, Memorial Day, 4th of july, Valentines day, Labor Day, Halloween or a major fight weekend.

Im not sure how much I can tell you with out soliciting. I was a VIP Host at Prive, Moon, Rain, and Blush. I now work directly for Prive management (which could mean I'm unemployed right now). If Prive opens back up, I have a table with unlimited comp bottles Fri, Sat and Mon.

Nah I'm not PM'ing you for more info, I just wanna know who you work for and all that to see if your legit or what not and to see if your known. We've had some other "hosts" on here which is why I ask. And I'm not asking to solicit yourself or anything

Nice! You seem legit as far as not wanting to "pimp" yourself out! So were you pretty much a host for Prive?

I was a full time host for prive from July 2008 to April 2009. I reported directly for Frank and Greg, working along side Kovatch, Logan, Chris and the rest of the host staff. Now I'm more independent, booking all my tables threw greg, and having a table with unlimited bottles that I pack with girls.

Basically the policy for the board is if you work directly for the place and are contributing legitimate info, promotions and help to forum members we more than welcome your posts, and it looks and sounds like thats what your intentions are so welcome aboard and we look forward your contributions, and we all hope the prive situation works itself out.

This kinda stuff scares crap out of me! It seems like you've to tip every last person you see an unknown amount that you should automatically just know.

For a complete newbie like me who comes from a place where you tip nobody, i'll need to be guided through it in baby steps.

So lets say it's a Friday night and me plus my 9 buddies (all guys) want to hit a club. What do we do and how much cash should I collect off them to cover all the necessary tipping plus bottles etc.

We're not cheap, I just honestly haven't a clue. Here in Ireland if you want a bottle you just ask the barman and pay the fixed price on display at the bar. The barman will even give you exact change back and not look for or expect a tip!

It all depends on which venue you pick, but lets use this generic formula.

9 guys = 3 bottles
1 bottle = (375 +20% gratuity and 7% sales tax) = 476.25
3 bottles = aprox 1500 if you include any hidden table fees or you get redbulls and waters.

I would tell each guy to bring 200, giving you 1800 to spend. That way you have 300 or so extra for tips as you see fit.

I would collect the money before heading out to the club ... we typically do this at the hotel before we pregame.

Thats the easiest way, instead of at 4 AM and everyone is wasted at the table and no one can hear anything and your trying to do math = FAIL
