  • Taxes and tip on a cabana

Generally, speaking what should we expect to pay extra for taxes/tips on a cabana? I am figuring 20-30%.

Also, do they servers/hosts split the tips?

    Thanks!

depends on which venue you go to. some have 38.1% some have 28.1% and drais 32% and its the same if you were getting a cabana or daybed/couch/lilypad.

hosts split tips amongst hosts and your server has a 20% auto gratuity included and they split it amongst other servers in their section i believe and only a very small percentage of that 20% goes to the bussers

Kind of depends. I always base my tip on the effort or "hook up" part of making a reservation. Tip amount definitely can play into your location as well. I usually negotiate up front. If the host can get me a lower minimum than the usual going rate, or get me a prime location on a lower min then I tip heavy. If you're paying the going rate and/or getting a typical spot for your min, then I usually stick to 10%.

There are a lot of factors at play, at least for me. Some guys just stay higher tips if they got a good host relationship and have been taken care of in the past with amazing deals.

I always bring it up when asking about mins because sometimes hosts have some wiggle room to get you a lower min or a great prime spot for less.
Been to Vegas too many times to count, partied in too many pools and clubs to track, but when you live so close, why wouldn't you?

          Hi,

What does that 32% include (At Drais, I'll be there this weekend and was wondering the same about tips) ? Tips for waitress/servers, Does the host that you book the daybed/table with get any of that percentage?

          Thanks!

8.1% state sales tax applied at every venue
20% auto gratuity for the waitress applied to every venue except XS and Tryst where it is optional
4% service fee at drais - and 2% at Omnia/Hakkasan

some venues have Live Entertainment Tax which is 10%

The waitress is the only one that gets anything of that which is the auto gratuity and they give a very small percentage to the bussers of that 20%

Everyone has a different amazing amount. Outside of XS during summer, there are no standard tips. If you are blowing your wad on the table you might not be able to tip at all. Unless a number was discussed before you arrive, tip what you can afford/believe the service is worth.

(ex. find out where you'll be then say can i tip for soemthing better)

if its a trusted host referred on here thats helped you out or even a host a friend referred you to and they've been great about communication and getting the best they could for what you're group wanted then definitely tip whatever you feel they earned and you can afford. (please don't blow your only extra cash on a tip that you may possibly need for a cab to your hotel later)

Most new hosts (other then XS) don't expect tips and aren't used to them. The reason it's so common on these forums is because once the handful of us JC hosts find out you're from here, we generally go a bit above and beyond to help take care of your Vegas weekend and make sure you get best bang for your buck and a great experience for wherever you choose (and don't want you to feel like your just a name on a piece of paper). Plus we know we'll see you a lot more.

Be sure to remember though..if the person that walks you to your table isnt the person you've been in constant communication with, I always suggest waiting to meet your actual host to provide their tip if you'd like them to receive it. Otherwise, that person that walked you is just a table runner or another host that was helping the runners and your actual host will have no clue you tipped.

Usually the handshake is discussed in advance. That also gives the host time to work a better table for you, knowing his hard work is going to pay off in the end. And it also gives transparency to the whole process.

Question: seen a lot of disclaimers saying (except xs) related to tipping hosts. What's different @ xs vs other clubs?

I've actually had hosts refuse my tip on many occasions (especially at clubs where I'm a regular), even after I offered twice. In any case, I pretty much only tip my host in the following situations:
                              1) They give me the best table location of the type I booked
                              2) They give me a no-min or credit
                              3) Management gives me comp bottles / B1G1, etc.

Otherwise, I save my tip money for bussers and security if they are working hard, and honestly at most clubs they bust their asses (not saying I don't love my waitresses because I do, but they don't need any extra money from me )

Hosts at XS don't get a cut of bookings, so they only make money off shakes. That said, IME the shakes they demand for any good table is outrageous (i.e., the shake demanded by XS hosts is many multiples of the cut they would make at another club), and that's one of the reasons I never go to XS. Lose-lose for both parties I guess.
