  • Newbie Dayclub Question

    Hi guys and girls,

I'm a recent lurker, first time poster. I think this forum is great, I've already found a ton of info to use on my upcoming trip. I have kind of a weird question, and this seems like the best group of Vegas goers to ask.

I'm going to Vegas March 11 - 14 (not the best dates I know, but with everyone's schedule this is what works). We're a group of 4 girls, ages 28-30 and we'll be celebrating two of our birthdays on the trip. All of the girls are interested in going to a day club/pool party, one is a bigger girl (size 18) and is really worried about being at a day club in a swimsuit and being the size she is. We've tried to tell her she's going with her friends, and we'll make sure we all have fun, no one is getting left behind, people are too busy drinking and partying to hassle her. She's still stuck on the idea of the place being filled with girls who have good-perfect bodies and being the odd one out.

Is she right to be as worried as she is? Everyone is there to party, and have fun. I can't imagine people will waste their time to give her crap about being there. I've been to Vegas before and while I've never gone to a day club, I've been to the regular pools and have seen people of all sizes having a great time. I'm assuming its a similar situation at the day clubs?

On the chance she is right and you think she'd feel really self-conscious/out of place at some of them, are there certain ones that would be better for us to hit, maybe one of the smaller ones?

I don't think it is something to worry about but I understand people being self conscious. There are always going to be 10's (or those who think they are) running around and trying to get noticed but I average 3 to 5 dayclubs a trip and there is always a variety of people of all ages and sizes. Confidence is obviously more than half the battle. I personally don't care what others think and if I'm there with friends that's what makes it a good time. I'm sure theres always going to be shallow people around, but they shouldn't matter.

The smaller pools are usually more intimate - Liquid comes to mind. If you want to be lost in a crowd, Wet Republic with a big headliner is a massive zoo so you can lose people!! There is always people who could be jerks no matter where you go, but I find most people are there to have fun and not hassle people about how they look! Sounds like she has good friends so she should be able to have a good time and not feel self conscious.

Just my opinion and I'm a mid forties guy who has fun at the dayclubs and I don't care if people think I'm old, I can party all day at the pool and all night at the club still. Most 25 year olds can't keep up with my record of 9 venues (5 dayclubs and 4 nightclubs) straight in 5 days!! All with bottle service. Lol.

Life's about experiences. Convince her to go and I'm sure the four of you will have a great time!!

Your going to be there Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday- leaving on Sunday?
      FYI:
      1. for pool parties they usually open around 11am with headline djs on around 3pm going till around 6pm.
      2. your at the very start of pool season so there really aren't any big name djs while your there.
      3. Big pool party days are usually Saturday and Sunday.

All that said there are all kinds-sizes of people at pool parties.

Early March is early for pool season - check to see which venues are even open, but I'd imagine most day clubs aren't open yet.

Wednesday is really slow. Liquid is your best bet - probably on Thursday too.

Friday gets a little better. Wet Republic is usually good on Fridays.

          Saturday you can go anywhere.

I wouldn't worry about size. Just have a good time, and fuck everyone who says otherwise.

+1 --- excellent advice for Vegas (and life) in general.

Looks like the forum ate my post last night, trying it again.

artedm - yes those are our dates. We know its early in the pool season, but we're coming from Minneapolis where its been anywhere from -8 to 16 degrees this week, so everyone really wants to get in some pool time if at all possible. We're ok with the fact that there may not be any big name DJs when we're there.

chrisbru - Thanks for the advice! We've checked calendars online and have some e-mails out. So far Wet Republic, Encore, Tao, and Marquee look like they will all be open.

The regular hotel pools should be open also
I get your point about wanting to hit the pools!!
I'm just trying to say a lot of the pool parties- encore beach, wet, etc reputation really comes from Saturday/Sunday big dj events.
You will see a crowd size difference between Wednesday and Saturday and if you come back during the summer will be even busier.
Just reach out but should be getting free entry for girl group everyday!

Good to know! We went March 17-21 last year and were only able to be in a pool one day due to it being mostly in the high 50s and lows 60s. In either case, don't expect the day clubs to be crazy that early in the year, but I'm sure it will still be fun!

As a size 12 (who has a pretty nice curvy figure and high self esteem) I felt a bit crappy at EBC last summer. I was also with a friend who could easily be mistaken for a model. No one was rude at all to me and I even got a solid amount of attention. I did however feel slightly inadequate the entire time. Just know that despite no one saying anything or making her feel bad internalized oppression can be a bitch and she still might be feeling a little let down. Make sure you focus on spending time together and not leaving her out (I know you wouldn't mean to but sometimes when drinking we aren't as cognizant as we would like to be).

Are you planning on going to a pool party? My friend and I will be looking to go to one potentially that Saturday as well. Both curvy girls

Thanks for for the reminder, as a former bigger girl myself I try to be cognizant of exactly that kind of thing happening to her. Yes, I think we're going to go to one! We're undecided on the date, working on a tentative itinerary now. I'm thinking we'll end up doing a pool party either Friday or Saturday, depending on what other plans we end up with. Do you and your friend have one picked out?

Definitely should do Saturday over Friday, Fridays there is usually significantly less people since a lot of people get to Vegas Friday night.

Nope! We will be likely driving in early morning Saturday tentatively so we aren't sure how hard we will hit the ground running. Honestly I really am a bit overwhelmed trying to figure out what pools/dayclubs are even open that weekend. It seems like Lavo brunch will be done by then as well as Ghostbar. If XIV is a thing that weekend I would be down for that. You should let me know if you find out good info on where the busier pools will be that weekend.

Don't believe the pictures you see online! They only photograph the best looking people there and at first I was very intimidated thinking you needed to be perfectly fit or you'd feel out of place. But honestly, all three times I've been to EBC it was a pretty normal looking group of people. Just like when you go to the beach, the difference is everyone has makeup on and their hair done. Also, you don't have to be in a bikini or bathing suit all the time. Keep your shorts or skirt or cover up on if it makes you feel more comfortable. And like everyone said, have a drink, relax and enjoy! Hope that helps.

I'll keep it short, no one gives 2 shits, really to be honest. And I guarantee a drunk guy will hit on her. The pool parties are full of drunk people, as long as she doesn't where something totally weird or a thong, she will be fine.
