Resort pools are often all ages so you're very likely to be around families and children. I would say also the music and the amount of attractive people differs greatly to that of the pool parties. They're great if you want to lounge, sunbathe and take a swim for cheap/no cost.

Pool parties are just that, parties. Ages are 21+ and the atmosphere is great, you'll see bottle presentations going on throughout the day at the cabanas/daybeds. GoGo dancers. The waitresses are nice to look at. There will be a dj booth/stage and at the bigger venues the stages have visual effects. Especially when they book big name DJs/performers. Pricing varies on your method of entry at the pool parties. There are pre-sale tickets, guestlists, table service, hosted entries and general admission.

^^ What he said. Just expanding:

A pool party is like a club during the day, except people are in bathing suits and there's a pool. You don't go there to swim or eat (though there is food, there are no tables or chairs or benches unless you do bottle service or a cabana).

Stay at your resort pool if you want to take it easy, swim, tan, have a couple drinks in a more relaxed environment, less people... Some hotels have great pools that are a good midpoint option between a "boring" pool and a pool party, like the European pool at the Wynn. It's 21+, they have good music and a nice atmosphere (YouTube it).

^^ Perfect explanation.

River, did you decide on a hotel yet?
