Lavo Brunch vs Ghostbar Day Club

XIV is the best winter party hands down. If you're in town that Sunday, just go. Tables can still be had at reasonable rates and it just has this laid back yet crazy vibe that just a isn't matched in town. Plus; it winds down early enough to hit another club after.

If Lavo is really $200 or $300 a person for the back corner, I'll most likely hit up GBDC. It might not be cheaper (given the cab fare, pre-sale tix, drink prices, etc), but it looks like less of a commitment, and more of an absolute shit show, lol. The opener with Jenna Marbles showed a shopping cart full of McDonald's cheeseburgers. That's all I really need after some PBR tallboys when I party. Lavo doesn't necessarily break my bank, but since I'm arriving on Wednesday, I want to make sure that I don't spend lots of money to be "asked" to leave given my drunken fatigue. Just a little bit of money is all it will take, lol.

hunnybadger, just a heads up that my group of 4 guys have a table with $500 food/bev minimum..so it's really not too bad. if anyone is aware of the bottle prices that would be helpful.

also, does anyone know if they require we get a bottle? might be better to get 8-10 drinks each and some food to cover the min.

same thing with MDC dome. will they require a bottle? our minimum is $750 for that.

I'm going to GBDC with a group of 14 on November 1 (next Saturday). We got a $1000 minimum for tables, which would definitely be higher at Lavo. Last time I went to Lavo, with a similarly sized group, I signed for a bill of about $7700 -- obviously we spent more than necessary, but I don't think it would even be possible to spend that much at GBDC -- they are simply in different markets. This group is a lot more cost conscious so I'm just hoping that GBDC will be a good party. We are all going to wear costumes. Hopefully I'll see some of you there.

After this past weekend, I definitely recommend Ghostbar. The liquor was flowing, great people and of course the cheeseburgers made an appearance! haha.

Pretty late here, but I wanted to respond with my experience from GBDC on November 1. In short, my whole group (ended up being 9 people) had an amazing time. Definitely not as lavish/pricey as Lavo; everyone just put pretense aside and raged. Of course, this was Halloween weekend and the costumes were on a level that you don't see every weekend, so that added to the experience. We had bottle service (got 3 bottles of Ciroc for $700, plus another couple of half bottles for shots near the end), and our bill was very reasonable given how much fun everyone had. Our group was mixed guys and girls, with most of us not looking to pick people up. Music was open format and perfectly good given that no one expected a big name. Service and security were great. I've had tables at a lot of the "Tier 1" clubs, and the staff here were just as accommodating, responsive, and cool as at any of those places. As a bonus it was great to have the patio with a view to use to cool off during dance breaks.

I can't speak to the scene on non-holiday weekends, or give any prospects for meeting girls (or guys), but I can say that if the party will be similar next Halloween I'll be back and I'll be bringing friends.

PS - Went to XS that night to see Kaskade (also awesome, as expected). For the day, I logged a cool 14 miles of walking/running on my iPhone Health app, of which at least 12 miles must have been dancing.
