Does anyone know what Tao Beach might be like on a Friday? How would this compare to a Daylight or another Tier 1?

We went on a Friday afternoon (maybe around 2-3 pm?) late last fall; I think it was their final weekend of the pool season. We were already staying at The Venetian so it was easy to get in and we were also able to get one of the couches next to the pool upon arrival for next to nothing.
It was pretty lively and they had an excellent DJ. At best, it was maybe at half capacity and roughly a 50/50 male/female ratio. The clientele here was a bit less pretentious than other pool parties we've been to, which was nice. We had a good group and were eager to start partying as it was the first day of our trip, so we had a fun time, but I can't say it stacks up to other tier one pool parties. We did Marquee the next day and that blew Tao out of the water (no pun intended).
I would say that if you're going to be doing multiple days of pool parties, this isn't a bad one to start with, as it's fairly easy to get into and the minimums are substantially less. You could always do Tao and then a tier one the next day. But if you're looking for a high energy scene with big-name DJs and more pool space (Tao's is TINY), I would say go to Wet, XS, Marquee, etc.
I think it all just comes down to your expectations, who you're with, and how much you're willing to spend.
If you do end up at Tao, I highly recommend getting in touch with Chris Traer (VIP host). He took excellent care of our group.
Hope this helps.Upcoming Trips:

Tao Beach is fun on Fridays. The pool is small so it gets PACKED. There was a line to get in the pool lol. I would agree that the crowd seemed less pretentious than some of the larger pools. Also, daybeds were reasonable priced.March 2012 & August 2012 & May 2013 Invasion & February 2014

I don't think it's a negative, but it's a different type of party than a place like Wet. I would say Tao Beach is great for drinking and socializing. When I went to Wet it was crazier in terms of splashing, lines, and antics. Still fun, but a different energy.March 2012 & August 2012 & May 2013 Invasion & February 2014
