Solid host if they notified you before the event. It might be a disappointment, but no where near the disappointment of finding out at the door. You still have options to make it a successful day.

I agree with the notification being appreciated. It let me go back to my group and decide what they wanted to do and in the end we are happy with the decision we made. I have to hard feelings toward the host whatsoever.

^^^ Agree! He could have not said a word and got you to the venue and then let you down on a busy day with no other options. When giving quotes farther out in advance, I sometimes try to give a range because you just don't know. The close to the event more resos come in and you have to sit the bigger resos in the prime spots and work your way down. One thing sometimes that we can do is give you a break on the min if we have to bump you to say a Bed or couch, since there's more of those vs the cabanas. You may go way over that lowered min, but atleast it makes the client feel like you did Something to assist. Try that.

Interesting stuff about the big conventions and especially the big teams winning during March Madness leaving people with spare cash!

I also think it is solid that the hose gave you the heads up. I always had figured the norm for a minimum was just a quote and nothing was guaranteed until the night of. A 25% markup from 4k to 5k is not a huge deal either. In the grand scheme of things. Its too bad that amount priced out your group, but at least you knew ahead of time. Usually, anyone booking a 4k table, would not blink on bumping up to 5k.

This is exactly right, most hosts do the best they can to keep there word and take care of you, but they like everyone's else have bosses, in the case that the price goes up the best they can do is offer you a chance to match the price and give you enough time to make the decision.

When the group is only 5 people and you add the additional fees and also all of the other days/nights going out the change might be something to blink at. Especially since I was really forcing the group to spend the other amount in the first place.

If you have 5, you were really pushing them. Of, course you could step down to a water couch pretty easy and still have room for ladies. As we've said the new min was standard for regular cabanas for Kaskade last year on any MDC day. This being opening weekend it may go up again after the ultra set he dropped yesterday.

I get that. But the host doesn't have the luxury of saying, "well, they only have 5 guys, or their budget is maxed". The hosts gotta do what their bosses say when it comes to minimums. Good hosts notify their clients ahead of time when minimums go up and give them the opportunity to adjust things based on the new prices.

And "traditionally" those that buy in on 4k minimums are usually ok with 5k, which is why that price increase did not seem so dramatic to me. It was not meant to be short-changing your situation.

Nothing is guaranteed in Vegas until you sign the slip!!! That's always been my theory.

I am not arguing about the price getting raised and I did appreciate the host telling me. I was just simply stating that the jump is a little much for the size of our group. I never started this thread complaining or upset. I started asking people experiences and opinions. I appreciate all that have chimed in and happy we were able to get something we are happy with. Thanks everyone.

Vegas is an open market. Table costs may increase due to demand (or, in some cases, due to owners, friends of owners, celebrities, high rollers/whales, etc. requesting tables and decreasing supply). Your host cannot control that. When your host gives you a quote, that is your host's best estimate of the table cost. Many of us have had hosts give us better tables (or bottle deals) than bargained for because demand was less than expected (I have not had a host reduce my cost but I have been upgraded). I have a quote for a cabana at MDC this summer. The host said the cost may rise due to demand. I understand that risk because I booked the cabana so far out. Typically I book only a few days out so I know my deal is probably solid. I think a good host will try to hold firm on your quote but if demand materially changes he likely has little choice. I think your host did you a solid reaching out to you now - many times on this forum you will read stories of hosts changing the minimum at the door (when it is too late to switch clubs). Maybe your host did a poor job of estimating demand, maybe your host did a poor job of communicating the possibility that the cost could increase based on demand, or maybe facts outside of your host's control caused the change (see parenthetical above about owners, etc. requesting tables). I personally would not be down on my host but rather would appreciate him reaching out to me now and giving me time to re-plan. I know it sucks because you likely set your budget based on the club, table and location. I think your only option is to reach out to another host or hosts at the same club and ask for a quote. If the quote matches the quote you have been given then you know that is the cost. You could also ask your host why the quote changed.
BigPimp, you are on point here...a good host will always be honest and let you know if the value of your location goes up due to high demand. A good host will also give you the best location possible if the demand is lower than expected.

I would have to agree the host did you solid here and you should evaluate what it is you want to do based on the new info. Does it suck it is a higher minimum, yes, could it have been a lot worse, most definitely. 2 summers ago I had a 4K min table at Marquee for Kaskade in the last row booked through a Marquee host, we were there at 9:45 and the place was already a zoo, after giving them our CC about 40 min later they came back and said we were bumped, tough break. Did I get screwed here, maybe, but based on the fact that the entire club was sat before 11 that was likely supply and demand. I was standing in line with 3 other friends and 8 girls we had met at the pool, basically holding my d*ck feeling like an idiot because it is now 11pm in Vegas standing outside the club with no table and other independent hosts were quoting me $1k just to get the group inside! Luckily or unluckily for my bank account, a dance floor table cancelled and my host was able to lock it up for 6k and we jumped at that. Once we were sat I went to tip the host and he would not accept any of it and he also set me up with a cabana at MDC the next day with no minimum (granted part of that decision was likely the 8 girls we had gone in with). Now you could say the host screwed me, or you could say he did me solid - ultimately I (and in this case you) may never know the truth based on the scenario. Often times, especially on big weekends, there are things that happen outside of the hosts control, so everyone is along for the ride.

I have another example of getting bumped from our original spot at an 8K min inside Marquee and then rebumping that group by going to 15K. In this case i know we didn't get screwed because the group group we had been bumped by and the rebumped happened to have mutual friends with our group who we recognized immediately once they showed up

I'm sure there are a ton of other stories worse than mine, but I feel like that is just the craziness of vegas
