I know it is not the crazy party as WR, but it looks like I want to hang out at the MGM Grand Pool Complex this Saturday. Currently they state that the cabanas are committed. How firm is that? Is there a VIP contact that I can use to make it happen for a token of appreciation?

If you have a casino host, he/she would be the right person to deal with that for you. If you don't, I am not sure but maybe a call into the concierge desk might be a place to start. As to how solid they are committed I don't know, they might keep some on hand for VIP casino guests just in case but if they don't use them they might open up.

I can't speak for MGM Pool complex but on two seperate occasions I've spent time at the regular hotel pools at Mandalay Bay and at the GO pool at Flamingo. In both of these cases, around midday we saw that there were still some cabanas available and went up and found the cabana rental place to ask if they were open and how much. Again in both cases the staff indicated they they were all reserved originally but that since those that reserved hadn't shown up they would be available for us. They quoted us a price, we (being the savvy consumers that we are
) seeing that they would be happier making some money than no money, negotiated downward and got the cabanas for very cheap rates for the rest of the day.
So....it's a limited experience but just some food for thought. If you have your heart set on a cabana then that's clearly not the way to go - but if you are open to it you can definitely get a good deal that way.
