Ridiculous newbie question about pool parties and Cabanas

We are planning an Aug 1st - 4th trip and I just got an odd question to ask/confirm.

One of the people going is getting promotional emails from Mandalay Bay and in there it states that people who are not staying at the hotel can only "rent" the Cabanas Mon-Thursday. The panic is that this is a general policy across all the hotels.

This can't be possible can it?! We are staying at the Aria and they won't let us purchase a Cabana at Marquee because we are not staying at the Cosmo?

I told her that this was ludicrous, but I would pose the question anyway so here I am.

Can people who are not staying at the "home" hotels still contact a host and reserve a Cabana?

They are talking about the standard hotel pools not the day clubs like Marquee
