  • Tipping at pool parties

I need an assist understanding the appropriate tipping etiquette at a pool party. Let's create a "normal" budget for a group of 6:

    $500 f&d minimum for day bed (it's a Sunday)
$30 tip for host(ess) who handles reservation/walks to the day bed
    $100 tip for waitress (20% of f&d)
$20 tip for security (is this expected?)
$25-40 for other "VIP services" provided (Bare pool provides chilled towels, popsicles, etc...$5 for each service delivered)

Add in $50 for taxes on the f&d, and the grand total for a $500 reservation is actually about $700-$750. Does that sound right? Any input on appropriate tipping is appreciated.

All looks pretty good...personally I'd bump my host tip a bit if it's someone I'm keeping a relationship with...if not and you just book through the venue then I'd do $50.
Like all great travelers, I've seen more than I remember, and remember more than I have seen.

I'm going to be in a Cabana at BARE on 9/24 and my f&b minimum is the same as yours. I was planning on 50 for the host who walks us out, 100 for the waitress, and then again about 25-50 for the other services.

But what is the security tip? Are you actually walking up the security guys and handing em a 20? i haven't been to any of the pools in vegas, just the clubs and i've never tipped security, so that's a new one for me.

Well it depends on each place. Security usually breaks up to watch certain areas. I usually will tip the guy who is watching my area. They are there for anyone who disturbs you and, they can send girls to your table, help your drunk friend out of the club lol. I always try to tip security so they go that extra mile. Even if you don't they still do there job as you have noticed.
              Clubs I have visited:
              Blush(Closed)
              Tryst
              Vanity
              LAX
              Lavo
              Pure
              XS
More to come in the future(Hopefully!)

That's the same date my group will be there (I say group because I will be watching football - trying to set something up for the rest of people in my group). I have never tipped security before either, but I've since found out that it is appropriate since they will usually watch your area the entire day. My general philosophy is to throw out tips up front (the 50 to the host, talk to the security and give him 20, throw an up front 20 to the waitress) to improve your image.

All of that said, it sounds like Bare is more of a relaxed/VIP experience on a Sunday, so I'm investing tips up front to try to improve my service/experience for the entire day. My group is actually considering Rehab instead, which I think is a terrible idea for a group of mid-30s that are more accustomed to pampering than bumping and grinding...but I'm going to be bar hopping the strip to watch football instead, so I guess it doesn't really matter to me.

I think i'm planning to do the same thing - tip up front.

I'm sure bar hopping for football will be fun - we're going to have a cabana with a TV so we can put on a game as well (though when it comes to women in bikini's vs football, it can be tough to look away from the screen, so we may have to turn it off! )

Personally, I'd break it down like this:

                    $500 F&B
                    $75-$100 Host Tip
                    $100 Waitress Tip
                    $20 to the table runner
$20 to the security if you expect them to keep an eye on your stuff, bring girls over, etc.

Are they the ones who will be most likely to send girls your direction? I'm hoping to at least socialize my single guy friends, and having security help out would definitely be worth a 50+ tip.
