If going with big guy groups, split the group into 2s or 3s. It doesnt look as bad that way.
I've never paid attention if prices change a few days before the actual event. I'm sure certain venues that may not necessarily be a club setting can get sold out. I believe DeadMau5 at the Chelsea/Cosmo was sold out or may have limited tickets for a certain area. I've never been there so I dont know.
Club entrance is all General Admission and there's no seating or section arrangement so I'm sure they dont oversell those. There can be Capacity limits at some places so if you have a pre-sale, I'm sure they'll let you in. But if you're just walking in and expecting to get in without a pre-sale, I'm sure they can easily turn people down on the spot.
