You could not be more wrong on this. 100X odds on a don't pass line bet would be the best odds you can get on any game of chance.....anywhere.
Agreed. you're getting in for cheap $5 min lets say... so very low risk on the come out roll (where your worst odds are) and then are able to bet an insane amount where the house has 0% edge... after the point is out, if you're playing strickly odds - you and the house are dead even - just the luck of the roll...

... but being able to max out 100x odds takes some $$$$, and some balls.

Since my usual play I like to bet against 4/5/9/10... but 6/8 are a little too close to "7" for my liking and don't like to be for (pass) or against (don't pass) on these numbers.

You can "buy" an number 4-10 on the board. Doing this means you put $XX on that number and every time it hits you get paid. If the point is made your money stays out there as well, if the shooter 7s-out the money is lost.

... since I usually don't bet for/against a 6/8, I will usually "buy" the opposite one that is set... example:

        Come out roll = 6
... I place $6 ($6 is needed because of the payout $6 pays out $7) on the 8. So now I'm hoping the shooter hits an 8 like 15 tmies in a row, because each time he/she does, I get paid.
1st time it is hit I take the money that is paid to me (so the bet pays for itself +$1)
2nd time it is hit I "press" the bet.... meaning I take my winnings from it being hit and add it to the bet, taking it from $6 --> $12.... so now if it hits again the payout will be 2x my original (but I haven't taken any chips from my rack)...
3rd time I take the winnings off the $12 ($12 from pressing the best on the 2nd hit)
4th time I press it again making the bet $24 now
5th time, I take the money
6th time I press it to $48 ... etc etc etc.

... doing this (assuming it hits once) allows you to increase the bet a lot without digging into your chip rack... and if the point (6 in this case is hit) my money would stay out there for the next point...

you can take this money back at any point too.... so lets say the 8 is hit seven times during a shooters run, I just got paid out based on have pressed every other bet, so I've made this follwing amount of money:
        1st hit - paid $7
        2nd hit - press $6 to bet - I get $1 ($7 payout on $6 bet but cost $6 to press)
        3rd hit - take $14
        4th - Press bet $12 and take $2 leftover
        5th - take $28
        6th - Press bet $24 and take $4
7th - take $56 --- at this point I feel the 7-out has to be coming, so I can pull the money that I have up there down and put it back in my chip rack (can do this at anytime)... so at this point from my $6 initial bet I've made:
        $7 first hit + $1 2nd hit/press + $14 3rd + $2 4th/press + $28 5th + $4 6th/press + $56 7th + $48 (current bet on the table I've pulled down) = $160

Great advice sidekicknicholas. I tend to take back my bets more before I press but that's also because I usually bet a few numbers starting out, ie 5,6,9. Im not disciplined enough to just bet on the 8 (or any one number) but 6, 8 pass line are usually the best bets.

          Thanks for the great breakdown!

My favorite was clearing a table when I started to shoot from the Don't. Guys started pulling their bets and I just kept cleaning up. Try it once if you want some breathing space at a crowded table.

A few years ago I tried this at the Venetian, during the day, at a table by myself. I kept shooting for a 7 but was not succesful at all, probably because I was at the end of the table instead of stick left or Stick right.

Nonetheless, I just cant bring myself to get into shooting the darkside. It just isnt as fun. When a table is hot and everyone is getting into the spirit of it and having fun while winning, that is priceless!

                1. Place $5 on the Pass Line and $5 on the Don't Pass Line - with this bet the only way I can lose is with a 12 on the come out roll (1 in 36 chance).... anything else, worst case scenario, I break even if I do nothing.
                2. If the point is set at 4,5,9,10 I will place odds on the DONT PASS LINE - it works opposite of the passline
                3. If the point is set at 6/8 - lets says 6, I will place $6/$12/etc on the 8 to come and collect my money on the 1st/3rd/5th/etc hits and press on the 2nd/4th/6th/etc.

You'll never win a ton at once, you'll never lose a ton at once and you'll be able to sit and play for hours on $100.... I've seriously never left a craps table with less money that I've started with doing just this - including tips
thats actually not a bad strategy. i find that a lot of people are scared to play the dont pass line. if you play it right it can be advantageous.

but people dont like if you play it because it brings bad luck to the rollers.

                    Just numbers... and odds....?

Me and the guys have been taking Vegas trips for about a decade to play dice. Typically, we simply play 2 numbers at 4-5X odds...Cover the hardways and attempt to parlay up to 800 or 1000 depending on the number. The last few trips, we've gotten peeled. Except for the 1-2 guys who hit the hardway. In regards to the last post, anyone else have a "system"? I suppose hedging the bet a little is not a bad idea, still it's my understanding that 2 numbers in addition to the pass line with odds on each offers the best statistical chance...

                        Very true.

But this alone can make craps boring, and it just shouldnt be that way!

When I was taught to play, I was told to bet "6, 8, passline...pick up chips". As the night went on and I made more money (there was a great roller, an Asian man, that night at the Venetian who rolled a lot of 6s and 8s), I noticed other people putting chips behind the passline. I began copying them and before long was getting more and more green chips. They were playing the odds.

So I think if I had to choose one method and one method only, it would be to play the 6, 8 and passline plus odds.

There are 6 ways to roll a 7, so the next best thing is a 6 or 8 (statistically speaking), which have 5 ways of being rolled.

The hardways are fun but overall are a sucker bet... but hey, I enjoy being a sucker every once in a while

Sometimes playing the don't pass I'll use the hardways to cover my ass...

Lets say on a 4 or 10 (I think its 8-1 payout) I'll bet $20 don't pass odds and then $3 on a hard 10... so the only number I lose on is a 6-4. 5-5 I will win $24 (but lose $20 on don't pass) only give me $4, and if I hit a 7 I will $10 on the don't pass but lose $3 on the hard 10.

I think its Osheas still has 100x odds on craps - best bet in Vegas

Casino Royale has 100x odds too, right on the strip. Plus $3 minimums, but I think you have to actually play the $5 tables to take advantage of the 100x odds (should ye be so brave!)

I like your strategy of using the hardways to cover, but even better:
Placing the 4 and/or 10, having a field bet out, pass line bet, odds, AND a bet on 4 or 10-hardway and it HITTING! Quadruple payout, and best of all you get 2:1 payout on the odds and point.

I did this multiple times in Tunica 2 years ago...I so hope to repeat it in Vegas this December.

Sounds like a great payday... but I think the key there is "... and it HITTING"

I play more for the entertainment of the game than the lure of big money. I just like the social nature of it all, the free drinks, and the chaos that goes with hot/cold nights.

I certainly don't have the brass to play 100x odds... We'll see how drunk I am next trip, maybe one point - all or nothing
