Just head to the window, make your bet.
There's a few little things. Make sure you tell them what terms in the game you're betting on... I'll give you an example. My teams the Broncos, so I bet the Broncos no matter what, wise? No. Fandom? Yes. Anyway when I wager on them it's a straight bet for them to win. I don't want to be annoyed that they won by 3 but they needed to win by 5 to make me some cash. That's me. The thing that you may run into(my friends have) - you walk say; "$1500 on the Nuggets" but when all is said and done you didn't bet them Straight the cashier assumed you're betting the line. Just be sure.
Parlays are just betting multiple events at once. Pick 2 right - 3 to 1, 3 - 7 to 1, 4 - 15 to 1 and so on. I dig'em on multiple sports because picking one right from multiple spectrums "can" be easier. I've gotten destroyed patting myself on the back for nailing four NFL picks right to only see the fifth bust.
Teasers are of the same ilk as a parlay but with this you get to "tease" your bet by whatever tease the sportsbook offers. So if it's a two game parlay with a 6pt tease you can apply those 6pts to either down or upping the spread.
These are the three main points to sportsbetting along with "futures" but that's self-explanatory.
Definitely checkout some sites there are tons that offer great, sound advice and also don't hesitate when the books slow to ask for some help from the folks behind the desk, 9 times out of 10 they'll be patient and be more then willing to help you figure it out or if you're lucky you end up chatting with the right vets who frequent the book who are psyked to impart their wisdom on the next generation.

As for my favorite sportsbook. Caesars. Hands down. Palazoo is nice, MGM, Hilton, Bellagio and Mandalay are all very solid choices. But my money and ass always finds it's way too Caesars for their sportsbook.
