So I'm on Expedia casually today and most rates for hotels and flights from LA are in the $500-$900 range.

The first result that pops up is for the El Cortez hotel though. Downtown. Here's the kicker. $126 total!

I've never been to downtown and I'm sure the hotel is shit, since it seems like they pay you to stay there or something at that rate, but now nobody has a reason to not come.

I've been watching the Cortez on expedia. It dropped about 15% for a day last week but then bumped back up. But even from here it's cheaper than just airfare.

Not just Rio, it can be any Harrahs property. Skip on down to Harrahs (or Paris I think is a Harrahs property) while in town the next time and gamble a little.

yeah that's always the kicker. it really depend on my agenda whether i stay in the Rio - usually if I do, I'm with family and we have a car. I mean, I'm considering it because its sounding like it'll be a central location in May, but honestly I prefer to be mid-Strip.

One thing to note is even though the shuttle from Rio to the Strip operates until midnight-ish or maybe even 2 on a weekend, sometimes the line to board it is so long you can't get on and you end up waiting. This happened to me a couple of Memorial days ago, we ended up sitting at the Rio for an hour and a half trying to get back to the strip where we were staying (cheap ass friends didn't want to cab it), and this was like 9 at night so we ended up being too late to go out that night.

and then, even though its not really a far ride, if strip traffic is bad it can take a while for a cab to even make it to the turn at Flamingo to go to the Rio/Palms or vice versa, so yeah - i've found that any savings i'd get from staying up there is going to go towards transportation. i've made the actual walk from fashion show to Rio and it was NOT PRETTY....

I recommend Imperial Palace for cheap tables, decent slots, and amazingly hilarious celebrity impersonator entertainment. If I have to give Harrah's any of my cash to get rewards credits, this is usually the best place for me
