majority of ppl's wisdom teeth are "impacted"
they can't weaken your jaw....but imo...as a general rule, due to the pressure, they may cause crowding and as we age our teeth tend shift....so why not get them out sooner than later.
and yes....most dentists are not barbaric and the procedure should be a breeze!

I don't know if I m going to get knocked out completely for it.. last time around I had a shot and it was completely numb. The only way i knew they were doing something to me was when they were sawing and it was rattling my skull.
