killer..that's awesome and i totally agree..for new years i want to stay somewhere a bit nicer..where were you thinking? 500 per person is not bad actually. i would love to stay at the bellagio or encore ..but i'm going to assume those are going to be ridiculous.
I just did a search and here's a few of what I got:
    Bellagio - 1481/741pp
    Wynn - 1643/842pp
    Encore - 1891/946
    PH - 1229/615pp
    TI - 1107/554pp
    Luxor - 958/479pp

This was for Dec. 29 - Jan. 2. I figure I'd save a few bucks by leaving on saturday, rather than sunday.

Sorry, I seen some of those price sheets and receipts from a friend that went last year. I rather spend that money in Spain

well based on his numbers....i would say either bellagio or PH....to be honest, i will always subscribe the to theory that a hotel room in vegas is just a place to sleep, shower, and get ready. it doesn't much matter to me where i stay as long as it is decent location and clean. i am just hoping i can find some deal on airfare, right now for new year's a RT ticket is going to run me approx $500...yikes.

hmmm, I was probably gonna do vegas for new years since i'll be out there all month but royale's post definitely got me thinking about doing it abroad. new year's in spain or sydney sounds pretty awesome, maybe even somewhere like dubai as well...

and although I kinda agree with A2SC about not really spending any time in the room at all, I'd definitely recommend the Penthouse suite at the bellagio for those looking to really ball out in style...it's a new decade, might as well do it big...

i just thought amsterdam was dirty and depressing....i did love the Rijksmuseum though. If i was going to do new year's eve abroad, sydney would be my top choice and i think dubai would be amazing too.

that's probably at the top of my list as well and I'd like to go as I've never been to OZ but I feel like 24 hours in a plane + all the layovers would crush my soul. I may have to plan a trip that has me heading progressively east (or west, whichever's faster) for a month or so to make it bearable.

The prices I posted include the airfare. (From LAX though.)

yeah, the airfare from the east coast is a killer...and the selection of flights is not real great either. i am hoping things will change as it gets closer but i am not real optimistic. i will just have to suck it up though, i am sure the amazing time i will have in vegas will make it more than worth it.

I'm super bored at work so I quickly just checked out hotels.com/travelocity... Looks like u can get a flight outta Boston (I thought I read somewhere u said u were from NE) and a stay @ the Hard rock for 640 a person.. staying from 12/30-1/2... you might be able to find something in ur budget with your airport and exact dates.
                            Vegas: May 2 - May 5
Hotel: Mandalay Bay - Vista Suite
                            5/2 - Vanity
                            5/3 - XS
5/4 - Carnival Court and Downtown

thanks for the heads up! i haven't done too much research yet, but i will def check out the places you mentioned. one of the main issues i am having is i will most likely have to fly out of hartford (i live much closer to there than boston) and that is a total shithole airport with really crappy flight selection.

I've decided i'm going, but i'm on a budget so i'll have to make some sacrifices. Instead of flying, i'm going to run there. Eating is a fixed cost, and if i'm fueling myself I might as well use it.

I will be bringing my camping equipment as well. Why choose one place to stay on the strip? With my tent, I can stay anywhere I want (until i'm kicked out).

As for showers and such, well there are plenty of public restrooms and many fountains/waterfalls for me to hit. Let's not forget the pools. Maybe I can find a bubble party?

I think I have a good plan in place, but if anyone else has suggestions please post them. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone!
