Got to be prepared for all occasions - nothing wrong with over packing and taking all that you need!

As for peeair, welcome to the board! Definitely book your hotel before hand - not only does it save time, but can save some dough as well. Check this thread [here] on fatwallet for current LV hotel deals [if you want something cheap on the strip, Bally's or Monte Carlo are both decent options]
